DIALOGUES01.How to improve research capacity?

http://01dialogos.blogspot.com/

“Today, civilization appears increasingly involved in an infinite concatenation of means and ends within which, the purpose has become the content of the motive, and utility elevated to meaning generates the lack of meaning.”
“The Human Condition”, Hannah Arendt.

These words that Arendt wrote in 1958 serve today to illustrate one of the obsessions of our society, the valuation of results above the motives and needs that make them useful. We find ourselves every day with the obligation to achieve a goal, many times without assessing the effort necessary to obtain it, or without reflecting on the gain we obtain by trying to achieve that goal. This excess without patience leaves little room for criticism, reflection on the meaning of our actions, and assessment of the mistakes we make.

It is necessary to look for spaces for debate and reflection amid the speed with which decisions are made that transform our ways of life. Turning reflection on any decision into a habit is a good habit, forcing ourselves to question decisions, compare them with others, provide alternatives and new points of view, is the best way to improve them and be constructive.

With this intention the group of scholarship recipients from the Barrié de la Maza Foundation We decided to open a space for debate that we call “Dialogues”, which seeks to offer a meeting point and reflection on issues of social interest, with the aim of creating opinion and transmitting part of the experience acquired in our training abroad, promoting the exchange of ideas, and the meeting of people from different disciplines with the agents who are making decisions on issues that affect our society.

“Dialogues 01” was held on November 27, 2010 at the headquarters of the Barrié Foundation In A Coruña, the improvement of research capacity in Galicia was the topic chosen for this first debate due to its importance for our future development, due to the precarious situation of researchers and the lack of knowledge that our society has about the value of research. investigation.
You can see the videos of the debate on the web https://vimeo.com/17862404

The videos that we now publish are from the presentation, on September 27, 2011, of number 190 of the GRIAL Magazine dedicated to DIALOGOS01, with the conclusions of the debate and the previous work of the five groups that dealt with areas related to scientific research, innovation and entrepreneurship in Galicia.
